It is, however, possible to miss wild fragments and feel stuck. You're astonished that Squre-Enix "let situations like this happen", but you should be astonished that they anticipated and compensated for your inability to explore by giving you the opportunity to buy what you failed to find.

No one has to gamble anything to play the main story. I think you need 1 wild artefact to grab the key-card in Augusta Tower , but that's it.
