This is not the case. Silly sod is a gentle form of chastisement…an affectionate way of saying, stupid person. It is like saying silly sausage or silly duffer to your child when they lightly scrape their knee or do something silly. I know my British and Downunder mates reading this can relate!

We get into big trouble disliked because our strange slang is taken literally! No one seems to know!! How silly is that! We all need that in our stressful lives. Silliness is uplifting and changes your state. As a child, we laugh at the smallest absurdities. As we grow older, this innate ability to see the value of being silly seems to dwindle.

It all appears to take precedence over play, and we have less time to be imaginative and silly. When I remember my childhood, I recall the funny times. In the blink of an eye, my dad could take me from sobbing my heart out thinking my life was over to lying on the floor holding my stomach because it hurt so much from laughing.

My dad had a knack of changing my state. Too often we reject the wonderful silliness that is an inherent aspect of all of us. Why do we believe that silliness is only for younger people not mature grown ups? It's quite soft, you won't really offend anyone by using it - twat is also common.

For a 'silly person' it's not so bad, but some usage can sound very rude indeed so I'd avoid it. Take out the bin before you sod off out. Apart from the first one, these are pretty soft and inoffensive.
