He served as a general patrol officer in Elizabeth, as a uniformed and plain clothed transit officer keeping public transport safe, as a traffic officer in Port Adelaide, as a patrol and cell Sergeant in Port Adelaide, and then as the Senior Sergeant in-charge of Port Adelaide then Adelaide central business district traffic.

And, for a period of time, he worked as the Operations Inspector at the Eastern Adelaide local service area. Whilst in that role Supt Denny had responsibility for the daily operational matters in the central business district and Hindley Street precincts.

In March of Supt Denny transferred to the Eyre Western local service area based in Whyalla, where he was responsible for operational matters in Whyalla, Port Lincoln, Ceduna and 12 other small police stations.

Scott Denny is a familiar face around town, having worked as the Whyalla Police Operations Inspector for three years. Superintendent Denny said he was looking forward to taking on the new role, but said he will miss working with the Whyalla force. Over the three years, he took part in many operations all of which aimed to make the communities across the area safer. Throughout the crack down on drugs, Superintendent Denny and the team shut down a number of clandestine drug laboratories associated with the production of methamphetamines.

Supt Denny specified that reducing crime and improving road safety are important, but policing is not limited to those two functions. He considers the strong and close community relationships one of the best parts of regional policing.
