Are there sharks in utila

In multiple years whale sharks have been tracked from Utila through three different countries, Honduras, Belize and Mexico, Utila Sharks have also been see in the waters of Florida. To help us find out more about them, join one of our Whale Shark Research Weeks! The resort is set in a beautiful beach front location called Pretty Bush, it is surrounded by coconut palms with 10 spacious, air conditioned deluxe rooms, all with large private balconies overlooking its own white sand beach and the crystal waters of the Caribbean.

From the beach our guests have access to unlimited shore diving night or day on 3 of the best south side dive sites, the reef starts at the shoreline. See a video of the house reef here. We even hung out with a shark sucker much cuter than it sounds.

Bogdan even brought snacks. The boat trip surpassed our expectations! We can't wait to go out again with Utila Cays Diving when we go back next January. We've been diving with UCD for several years and always have a fantastic time. Bogdan, Mike, and Jeff took us on several trips and as someone who has dived Utila for years, I always appreciate that they always find the best places to find active sea life.

We particularly enjoyed going through the Old Airport Caves this trip. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience with Utila Cays Diving. The friendly interaction and personal service were excellent.

Bogdan's personal touch, Mike's professionalism were fantastic. While they can't promise it, we did see a whale shark on our way out to our first dive site, and spent about 30 minutes with it - was great!

I would go back in a heart beat! Thanks Bogdan and team, we had a superb time diving with you all! If you're going to make your way out to Utila, do yourself a favor and make the extra effort to Utila Cays diving and stay at Hotel Kayla for the added convenience of location.

Bogdan will take great care of you, give you a tour of the island, and make sure your experience is one-of-a-kind. He was helpful in answering all my questions about how to get to and from the Cays, and he helped to arrange my travel. He even found me a direct ride during the week from Utila town to West End, Roatan, where I was staying after my visit to Utila.

Jewel Cay is quiet, peaceful and quaint. My only regret was not staying longer, as I only stayed for 2 nights. Diving was exceptional and the area wasn't crowded by other divers or dive boats. It's a nice break from some of the other areas where the reef is crowded and there are a ton of other divers. Seeing that you're located on the far west side of the island, it's easier for the dive boat to get to the North Side of the island where you have a better chance of seeing whale sharks.

We were fortunate enough to see a whale shark in-between dives, thanks to the eagle-eye of Jeff, the boat captain, and Mike, the dive master. Mike is a great dive master and will take his time to make sure you're comfortable in the water and also brief you on what you might see. He's great at pointing things out in the water as well. I will definitely be making a trip back to Utila Cays Diving.

Whale sharks can regularly be spotted in the waters around Utila Island all year round, although they come more frequently in spring months and early autumn. Unlike dolphins, for example, whale sharks are usually swimming solitary and it is not uncommon for several singular sharks to be spotted in a single day in the waters around the island of Utila.

These amazing sea creatures can travel very long distances and have been recorded to travel several thousand miles. So which times of the year are best to see the whale sharks in Utila? Well, Utila is unique because you have good chances to see them all year long, but usually the main season when they can be spotted starts at the end of February, goes through months of March and April, and then also the whale sharks can be seen in smaller numbers in the months of October and November. One of the reasons why the whale sharks are congregating around the island of Utila is the unique oceanography.

Utila is located on the farthest northern part of the Honduran shelf, and the main difference between Utila and the other Bay Islands is that the tropical island of Utila has very shallow banks on its southern side and a very large and deep bank to its north side.
